While speeches will provide a quick boost to an issue's score, the way to solidify an issue's place in the hearts of voters is by using advertisements. Ads provide a weekly boost to your position on the issue, the voters' position on the issue, and the importance of the issue overall. Ads also increase your voter enthusiasm in the state it's placed in, as well as the surrounding states.

Placing an ad is similar to giving a speech: you must pick your issues and your stance carefully depending on what state you're in. Make sure to check the advertisement effects at the bottom of the ad screen to see who your ad resonates with (or doesn't resonate with!). Ads are expensive and require a monthly upkeep cost, but have more long term effects and reach further than speeches.
As a candidate running for the presidency, you need to pay attention to key factors in each state that directly affect your standing in the election. On election night, you’ll need to make sure you can beat your opponent in these areas:

Enthusiasm: The percentage of a popular who feel like they really know a candidate. The higher your awareness value is, the more voters will turn out at the polls.

Issue Score: Your issue score determines how your stance on the issues relate to voters in that state. The higher your score, the more you have to talk about with them when you place ads and give speeches.

Approval Ratings: This gives you an idea of what percentage of the population in a state will vote for which candidate. You are also able to view the percentage of ‘independent’ voters, which can give a losing candidate a fighting chance if the numbers are high.

Wealth: The amount of wealth a state has does not affect how citizens vote, but it is very important while managing your campaign. States with a higher wealth will yield you more money when you choose to fundraise during your turn.

Top Issues: Every state feels differently about national issues. What may be important to voters on the East Coast may not mean anything at all to voters on the West Coast. Once you raise your awareness in a state, knowing the issues and manipulating your activities there to reflect them becomes your ticket to victory.
The sad truth about our political system is that it's not always about the issues. Operatives are individuals who can have a major impact on the course of the campaign and by extension, the results of the election.

*Operatives per se can be hired at any time with political capital. The cost increases with every subsequent hire. Three types of operatives exist to hinder your opponent, while six are there to provide major bonuses to your own side.
*Activists appear at random as political opportunities. You can spot an Activist on the map by the large question mark that will pop up in the state they're in. The first candidate to reach the Activist will be the one that recruits them.
*Politicians have to be careful, though. If the question mark is yellow, that means that the activist may either be looking to help or ruin their campaign. If that candidate has an appropriate Headquarters in the state, the Activist's true colors will be shown (green for good, red for harmful), helping to ease the risk.
While Campaign Headquarters will generate moderate donations every week, every so often a candidate will need a healthy boost to their campaign bank account. In these cases, the politician can fall back on Fundraiser events. * Number of Fund Raisers Held: Supporters will start to grow tired of a 'mooch', so candidates should steer clear of states they've already visited. Too many fundraisers will turn a donation tidal-wave into a trickle.
Gracing the stage at a local college, theater, or stadium is a great way to get citizens excited about an issue. For centuries, candidates have used this tactic to raise the statewide issue score (combination of voters stance and issue importance) by visiting a state and selecting the Give Speech option.
*Besides affecting how voters feel about an issue, speeches give a large boost to a candidate's enthusiasm in that state.
*Speeches take a lot of stamina, but don't cost any money, so it's a good move for poor Candidates to make in order to recoup lost funds.
*Since speeches are important in raising an issue's overall score, it's important for candidates to speak on a topic that will engage the maximum number of independent voters while keeping their base happy.
*The game breaks the outcome of a speech into simple 'thumbs up' and 'thumbs down' graphics. By looking at the bottom of the speech screen, you can tell how the speech will affect voters of each party.
*The most powerful speeches deal with topics that give a 'thumbs up' from both independent voters and voters of their political party.
In order to become the President of the United States, you will need to focus on winning as many electoral votes as you can. You can have control of the popular vote, but still lose if you’re not able to overcome the electoral goal.

To see where you stand with the Electoral College, examine the map in “Electoral Votes” view. The colors will range from bright purple to grey. The brighter the state, the more electoral votes there are to win.

PRO TIP: A ‘Political Strategy’ map mode is available during the election cycle. When in this mode, states can be toggled ON or OFF which will help you strategize which states are necessary to win.
<ul>
<li>Stamina: This determines how many stamina points you have, which allows for more actions per turn.</li>
